Bill Nye the Science Guy? Essence of Evil

Remember the Science Guy, Bill Nye? The PBS science teacher who won over the minds of millions of children (and a few closet adult science freaks)? Well, it is reported that when he was speaking at a community college, he mentioned Genesis 1:16......
God made two great lights — the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars
Nye pointed out that although the Sun really is a star (an average star at that) and that the Moon isn’t really a light but rather an object that reflects light from the Sun. .....well, some folks walked out angry, and one woman was heard to exclaim “We believe in a God!

So? What does having belief in God to do with reading the bible as a science text?

Seriously, some people take these things all too seriously. From the frame of reference on earth, it would appear to be a light, thus making the ancients believe it was. Doesn't destroy the Bible at all.

Bill Nye is looking for a scientific explanation in a place where only personal answers are given.

The difference between scientific and personal answers is best described in a story.

let's say you come home one day and notice a pot of water boiling on the stove. You ask your wife(husband, roomate, lover, whatever) why its boiling.

She could say
Scientific explanation-"the heat from the burner on the stove is conducted throught the metal of the pot, heating the water to the point where it startes boiling.

Personal Explanation- I wanted to make some tea.

The Bible (in this case) is telling us WHY God created the sun and moon.
