A funny thing happened on the way to February

I've got to share a funny story with you. I'm a regular over at Internet Infidels discussion board. The board covers a wide range of topics and the posters are collectively and individually very bright. The board is a magnet for Fundamentalists who are trying to crush scientific arguments or bring all the members of IIDB into the flock. About a week ago, a fellow named 'sevenxtrust' posted the following challenge:

We have debated with some atheists who have done a very bad job thus far. So we want you to debate with us IF YOU ARE UP FOR THE CHALLENGE that is. Christians join in too.
Beware atheists, because the Lord God WILL reveal Himself to you in whatever way He wishes.
link removed (JM: Yeah, AT THE REQUEST OF THE CHALLENGER)
So if you are up for it,,,come.
Thank You

We've all seen these 'challenges' before. A bunch of us showed up at the board, ready to be intellectually challenged. It was quickly apparent that sevenxtrust and his cohort of 'challengers' were in way over their heads. In fact, they were over their heads scientifically, scripturally and intellectually. I think several of us were betting on how long before we would be banned. In fact, one of the posters at IIDB made the following statement when he saw the challenge:

Oh... oh.. oh... this is just priceless...
Take a look here.
It's a thread on the "Debate Unlimited" forum, much like this one.
It started just over a week ago, with our good friend sevenXtrust spamming their board with his challenge.
It then documents their going over there and thrashing the Admins in debate, followed by the mysterious closing of the board.
Then, three days later, their board mysteriously reappears (minus the evidence of said thrashing) at a new URL.
Then, of course, sevenXtrust sends the same spammed message to us, and the whole hilarious process starts again...
They're even copy/pasting the same arguments to us as they did to the previous bunch of atheists that they invited to join.

To their initial credit, they did try hard. The chief of the board, Dan Lirette claimed the deletion of the previous board was by accident. Most of their arguments were vacuous and when they got into any real trouble, they simply reminded us that we are all hell-bound. Then sevenxtrust spammed several other boards stating something along the lines of 'We've been attacked by atheists'---never bothering to explain just why all those new people showed up. Things were moving along. Challenges were made by the faithful and then rapidly abandoned when the questions got too deep (about ankle-deep usually did it). Then, this morning I found out I was banned. Apparently so was everybody else and the entire discussion section of that thread was deleted. Guess old Dan couldn't take it. Anyway, the funny thing is that one of the IIDB folk complimented Dan earlier about not censoring comments. Dan replied:

I was thinking today.... In "real life", we cannot "ban" people from certain words or actions... we can leave the situation, but we cannot ban THEM.
I feel this should apply here.... no one should have to be censored (with a few exceptions as noted above) for being on a Forum, Christian or otherwise.
The Lord isn't concerned with people cleaning the outside of their lives until the inside is first dealth with; hence, I think we should, here and elsewhere, as Christians, work with this mindset, that we cannot "force" people to do what "we" ask... we must allow people to express themselves as they see fit; and if the above guidelines are violated, and ONLY then, will anything be locked, but rarely deleted.
I mean, Forum posts can get heated; big deal.
Many Christian Forums and even secular ones have guidelines which are restrictive to a person's personality; you'd think they set the Forum up to blast off 1000000 rules for all of their visitors due to their power-trip mentality.
This forum won't be like that.
Ever.

TO which I might add..Ever in the week of January 24-31. After that, I'm going to wipe out any evidence of those sinners who posted here. Ahh, the mind of a fundie. For those interested in viewing the remnants of that board, you may follow this link. Hurry, the board may not last the week.

UPDATE: Dan removed his post 'this board won't be like that, ever'. Dan does not seem to be above "lying for Jesus" when faced with a challenge.

Cheers

Joe Meert

That's priceless! As someone who was witness to the original troll of Debate Unlimited and who watched the resulting threads over on their board (and who watched the board go AWOL once they got to far in) I love the fact that they decided that we'd done a bad job.

I'm not the least bit surprised to find that they've killed of the threads (and, from what I can see, some of the forums they had aimed at "non-Christians").

Iam on that board and was happy to discuss things with those who either didn't believe in a god or the god of the bible. Scientificaly you guys have me beat, but all discussion doesn't always have to be scientific. Many of you cannot handle that we believe GOG is loving, kind, patient, etc...when I would make such statements certain others would get angry. Why? Is it because your conscience bothered you, when you were warned of judgment? I thing so! Most of the atheists want to avoid their conscience and keep things in their intellect. Nice firewall! I am sorry to see the discussions go, but Dan is my friend and I support his decision

Alan,

You were simply out of your league scientifically and apologetically. I'm not surprised Dan deleted a record of all that, it was an embarassment to you, him and that board. I see now it's only open to people who will pat each other on the back in ignorance. Dan lied and then covered up the lie by deleting the post. Very strange behavior for a supposed Christian. Then again, leaving it up was an embarassment as well. I don't think you made a spelling error either. From the looks of things, you would have been better off defending Gog rather than the God you tried to defend. Sad, very, very sad that nobody on that board was strong enough to witness effectively or be open to criticism.

Joe, I was able to witness to the glory of God and to explain salvation by grace through faith in the life death and resurection of Jesus Christ. What you or others choose to do with that is up to you. Aruing about scientific things is not something that will prove or disprove God. Science cannot prove if Abe Lincoln freed the slaves now can it.

No animosity though Joe!
Thanks for the conversations, I hope you oneday find the door to Heaven

What makes you think I haven't found the door? Your problem is that you make too many assumptions about people who disagree with you. I dare say you were not an effective witness and Dan was even worse via his actions (deletions and then hiding of the lie). You need to calm down and stop the hellfire and damnation speeches. You won't win many souls by trying to scare them into the faith.

This sort of thing never ceases to amuse and amaze me. People such as the author of the above have to lie about what atheism is just so they can feel good about their own choices.

Worse yet, there's an amazing level of irony going on in the above statement given that people from that BB trolled other BBs, lied about the trolling, and when things didn't go their way deleted the result they solicited.

Talk about wanting to "avoid their conscience"!

I am sorry to see the discussions go, but Dan is my friend and I support his decision

You support dishonesty and censorship as long as you're a friend of the person who is doing it? Don't you feel just a little bit uneasy about that? Not even just a little?

I feel that since I was not part of your conversation with him that I cannot make any judgment on what was said or done. Also Joe, based on our conversation I was able to discern that you hadn't found salvation in Christ yet.

You're funny. You don't see what's wrong with Dan's behavior and you make assumptions about people who disagree with you. No wonder you're a completely ineffective witness.

Joe, why would you expect me to comment on what Dan said if I don't know what he said? I do not agree with everything he has always said, and if he lied to you or anyone else then he is 100% wrong. I didn't think I made an assumption about you, we had a long conversation. If I was wrong about you and your faith in Jesus Christ then Iam sorry. So Joe are you a believer and follwer of Jesus Christ? Have you been born again?

No judgement? That's curious, because earlier you said "Dan is my friend and I support his decision". Looks to me like you have made a judgement.

Why is it that I would enjoy a site that demonstrates a complete lack of science from its title?

Did you go to the site Joe, or did you just write it off, without checking it out?

At 11:15 AM, Blogger Unknown said...

Oh yes, I went to the site for as long as I could stand it. Whenever anyone claims to have a 'theory of everything' that just so happens to contradict our knowledge of how things are, the term 'wacko' comes to mind. When they are selling that 'theory', my eyes roll back and I stop looking at the site. What did you think? Were you impressed? What was the most important thing you learned?

I have since created a Blog... come talk, chat, yell, whatever... but my bog is a "no debate zone".

Why?

You guys were outright rude, ignorant and when provoked with theological debate would resort to uneducated calculations on theoretical nonesense that was simply annoying and bothersome.

I can keep a Forum; I support free speech.

Abuse that right and you're gone.

Don't like that?

Too bad.

I'm simply not interested in children's play.

Grow up.

Well Joe Meert it has been awhile since I have last spoken to you.

What I found funny when I looked over the above was that you forgot to mention that we were out numbered 3:1 on this debate. It seems to me that you were scared to have a fair and logical debate. But that's just my 2cents.

Ahh, nothing like seeing the thoroughly spanked heinies of liars Dan Lirette and Matt Mahar glowing like a bright red maraschino cherry! It was *such* a horrible experience for you mouth-breathers that you just *had* to come back for more, eh?

Very well. This time, why don't you liars try to argue the case for your silly deity on DU, so we can all have a good laugh at your hijinks later, okay?

So Dan Lirette knocked one of his protege's up and she gave birth to a brainless baby. Not sure if anyone else informed you, but her blog is here:

http://babyfaithhope.blogspot.com/

And the thread about it on SomethingAwful is here:

http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3121857&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

Dan admitted that he knocked the girl up, but when confronted about it he removed his testimony from one of those Christian webforums and said that everyone was rewording what he said.

Anyway, he asked Jesus to forgive him and I guess Jesus did. Or something. His wife supposedly forgave him, too. But he's still not helping out with the brainless wonder.

Thought you might be interested, because Dan Lirette is an e-douche of the finest e-douche quality.

Here's the article that the goons put together on ED:
